SAT subject test are conducted to evaluate proficiency of student in a particular subject. Subject test are offered in Math, Literature, Science, etc.

Duration of SAT Math – 2 Subject Test: 1 hour

Questions: 50 questions, all are MCQ based questions with five options each and only one answer is correct.

Scaled Score Range: 200-800

The test is generally aimed at students who have completed the following;

• Two years in Algebra
• One year in Geometry
• One year in trigonometry
• Elementary function

Q-1) When is the exam conducted?

The exam is offered in the months of August, October, November, December, May and June.

Q-2) Is calculator allowed in the exam?

Calculators are allowed. The calculators which are allowed are;

• Most graphing calculators;
• All scientific calculators;
• All four function calculators (Not recommended)

Following items are not allowed in place of calculator;

• Laptops or other computer, tablets, cell phones / smart phones are not allowed in place of calculators.
• Any equipment via which one can access internet, can have wireless connection, Bluetooth, any type of audio or video recording possible or any other smart phone feature is not allowed.
• Calculators with touch screen capabilities are also not allowed.
• Mobile phone calculators are not allowed.

Note that your exam center will not provide you with the calculators hence one shall also carry extra batteries with you.

Course Structure;

Algebra and functions (Most important topic for SAT Math Subject Test) Expressions, equations, inequalities, representation and modeling, properties of functions (linear, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric, inverse trigonometric, periodic, piecewise, recursive, parametric)	Most of the questions will come from this topic. One can expect somewhere around 25 questions from this topic which is around 50% of the total questions.
Coordinate geometry and conic section Lines, parabolas, circles, ellipses, hyperbolas, symmetry, asymptotes, transformations, polar coordinates	One can expect somewhere around 6-7 questions from this topic which is around 12-15% of the total questions.
Three-dimensional: Solids, surface area and volume (cylinders, cones, pyramids, spheres, prisms), coordinates in three dimensions	Don’t expect many questions from this topic. Expect somewhere around 2-3 questions from this topic.
Trigonometry: Right triangles, identities, radian measure, law of cosines, law of sines, equations, double angle formulas	One can expect somewhere around 6-7 questions from this topic which is around 12-15% of the total questions.
Data analysis, statistics, and probability: Mean, median, mode, range, interquartile range, standard deviation, graphs and plots, least squares regression (linear, quadratic, exponential), probability	Expect around 4 questions from this topic which is less than 10% of the total questions.

Scoring of the test;

The test is scored as;

S = 800 – 10(44 – R), where;

S is scaled score

R is raw score

How is raw score calculated?

Raw score = Number of correct answers – 0.25(number of incorrect questions)

* Questions left blank are not considered while calculating raw score.

So, for example, if one attempts 36 questions correctly, 12 questions incorrectly and leaves 2 questions blank.

Then, total raw score will be = 36 –  = 36 – 3 = 33 marks.

The raw scores are then converted to scaled score, out of 800. The conversion of raw score to scaled score is depends on difficulty of exam; however, in the recent times it has been observed that raw score of 44 or above will fetch a scale score of 800.
